Boo Boo Pie

Happy Tuesday everyone!! Even though I feel like Monday has carried over with me today. I had an idea for a new recipe. I got it started last night and waited until this morning to finish it and it just didn’t meet the expectations I was hoping for. So I had to admit defeat and toss it. Therefore leaving me without a recipe to share this morning. Or so I thought.


As I was wondering what in the world I was going to do, I thought of Miss Patti and her Boo Boo Pie. She goofed on a recipe and it turned out being a hit with her family and has been a customer favorite at Patti’s for many years now.


And since it is so close to Christmas, and Christmas is all about family, I chose to celebrate Miss Patti today and feature her Boo Boo Pie Recipe.


Now Miss Patti has been famous for her pies for nearly 50 years. But She had her moments as well when trying new recipes. She had received a recipe for a chocolate coconut pie from a friend. The only problem was the recipe did not give precise measurements, only approximations. So she decided to double everything and make two pies since her pan was larger than the one called for in the recipe. She whipped them up, put them in the oven and waited for the delicious pies to bake. But soon she saw this wasn’t working out. She recalled the pies overflowing from her pans like lava from Mt. Vesuvius. She said she had to crawl in the oven to clean the sweet gooey mess and had nothing but her feet hanging out. When asked what she was doing she told them she was cleaning up the worst boo boo she had ever made. And with that statement the pie was named and has been enjoyed my hundreds of thousands of people over the years.


So what you will need is:

2 & 2/3 cup Coconut

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 stick margarine

3 squares unsweetened chocolate

¾ cup sugar

½ cup all purpose flower

3 eggs

1 TBSP vanilla

Mix together coconut and sweetened condensed milk and set aside. Microwave margarine and chocolate together for 4 minutes in a microwave safe bowl. Add remaining ingredients and pour into a greased pie pan. Put coconut mix around top. Bake at 325 for 25 minutes.


Now when I was a server here, many moons ago, we had to memorize the pie list, I always told people it tasted like a warmed up mounds bar.


So although my recipe goof will not be a beloved recipe at all, it made me think of this wonderful story and pie recipe and gave me a chance to share it with you all today.
